Always a Work In Progress (My .dev Domain)

I never did get my danny brown dotcom domain, my name is too common and I was too late to the game. For years, I had a dotcom that I didn’t really like, and I underutilized it, in part because it was a version of my name that I never really use, so it felt weird to link and share.
I was doing some domain hygiene recently and noticed the .dev domain option. I’m a dev, I thought, I wonder if plain dannybrown dot dev is available? If you’re a discerning reader, you will have already figured out that it was indeed available and I did indeed buy it.
Now, being a dev, it’s like, a double-edged sword. On one hand, I’m a dev! dannybrown.dev is perfectly advertising that right in its name. But on the other hand, I’m a dev, and a .dev environment kind of strongly implies a development environment, i.e., not production. So there’s a part of me that’s a little dissatisfied, like the website hasn’t shipped, you know?
But then, I realized: I am always in development. I’m most productive when I’m learning new things, figuring out more efficient ways to do repeat things, and just generally leveling up. If I ever call myself done and shipped to prod, that’s kind of the day I’ve given up – something I don’t intend to do. With that in mind, the double-edged sword morphs into a dual positive meaning that makes me pretty darn stoked with my new domain.
